The report of Live performance <otono-e>

ライブパフォーマンス、音の絵＜オトノエ＞を綜合藝術喫茶・茶会記にて開催いたしました。

部屋を分断する大きなキャンバスに水墨画ペインティングを即興で描きました。

演奏はジャズベースの斎藤草平くんが来てくれて、ソロ演奏をしてくれました。

もちろん、ベースソロというのも初めての試みでしたし、ライブパフォーマンスも今までにない配置にしたので、少し違和感のあった方も多かったと思います。

今回のように、姿の見えないライブは、終わってみると、新しい試みとして、受け入れられた面と、改善すべき点とを残して、ある意味、未完成作品となりました。

次回、まだ未定ですが、どのような即興ライブをすることができるか、可能性も広がり、とても楽しみです。

The big canvas divide in the middle of gallery, then I paint with Live music.

Jazz musician Sohei Saito played live Jazz base solo.

Ofcourse, it was first trial for him to play Jazz base solo for live painting and some people felt very different atmosphere because of the environment of strange formation in the room.

The Live performance became an imperfection as one meaning, and there are acceptable ways to be new idea, on the other hand, there are points to be improved in this time of special live which we hide.

I enjoyed what kind of new live performance from now on like this time possibility spread very much.

Thanks a lot for all the guests who came to this live painting while you might be very busy in April.

The Sumi-e Live painting and demonstration in ASIJ.

東京のアメリカンスクールの日本古典文学クラスに招待されて、水墨画のデモンストレーションをしました。

こちらのAmerican School In Japanは一番最初に日本に出来た、外国人子女のための歴史のある学校です。

まず、水墨画がどうやって日本に入ってきたのか、その経緯を話したり、今までの流れを説明します。

また、基本的な考え方や洋画との構図の違い、茶道と禅の世界観などにも触れました。

意外と日本に住んでても日本の古典文化については知らないようです。

それは日本人の高校生も同じようなものかもしれません。

しかしながら、中にはお祖父さまが日本人で、日本家屋に住んでいるので、掛け軸を見たことはあるという生徒もいました。

そして、実際に水墨画の技法を使って、色々なものを描いてもらいました。

日本の学校と違い、書道の授業もないので、筆を使うのも、もちろん水墨画を書くのは初めて、という状態。

ご家庭も学校も欧米なので、日常生活で日本文化に携わる機会が少ないようです。

しかし、みなさん、なかなかうまく筆を使って、綺麗に丁寧にトライしてくれました。

先入観がないせいか、肩の力が入らず、いい線や面が描けています。

最後の仕上げに、少し手を加えて完成。

今回のデモンストレーションで、日本文化のことについて、さらに興味を持ってくれれば嬉しいです。

I did demonstration live painting in Japanese literature class at American School in Japan for high school students in Tokyo.

The school is the first American school in Japan which has long history.

First of all, I explained how the Sumi-e came to japan and became a part of our traditional art.

And I talked about basic philosophy of Sumi-e with differences between Japanese art and Western art, including the idea of tea ceremony and Zen.

They lives in Japan for years, but I felt they are not sure about Japanese tradition very much.

It may be same situation even for Japanese high school students too.

However there is a student who has seen Sumi-e scrolls in his grand father’s traditional house who has Japanese parents.

I made them to paint Sumi-e on the wall paper directly with different kind of brush technics.

It was the first time they paint sumi-e, but they did great job nicely.

In their life, there are few chances to know Japanese tradition for them to live in Western families, and there are no Japanese Calligraphy class like Japanese school.

There are no stereo type about Sumi-e, so they had no nervous feeling about painting which is good.

I put some painting as demonstration in the end and made a picture at last.

I hope those American school students felt some Japanese art by this class demonstration.
